Attendees at the 2021 AAAS Annual Meeting are invited to learn about the Fulbright Specialist Program, which has provided academics and professionals with short-term opportunities to strengthen relationships and mutual understanding with host institutions around the world for twenty years.
This virtual information session will include an overview of the program and topics such as:
• Eligibility requirements;
• Benefits for participating Specialists; and
• Application process.
You will also hear from two program alumni in the STEM fields and learn about their experiences serving as Fulbright Specialists and the impact of the program on their professional and personal lives following their return to the United States:
Dr. Devon Payne-Sturges is an Associate Professor with the Maryland Institute for Applied Environmental Health at the University of Maryland, School of Public Health. She also holds a joint appointment in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics. Dr. Payne-Sturges was a Fulbright Specialist at Hochschule für Gesundheit in Bochum, Germany in 2017. Her research interests are children's environmental health, environmental-health disparities, cumulative risk, and policy reform.
Dr. Tetine Sentell is the Director/Chair of the Office of Public Health Studies at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa (UH) and Professor in the Health Policy and Management specialization. Dr. Sentell was a Fulbright Specialist at the University of Medicine Institute of Public Health in Tirana, Albania in 2017. Dr. Sentell has a long-standing expertise in studying health outcomes and health communication/literacy/language across diverse racial/ethnic groups using mixed-methods and clinical administrative data. She has published over 85 papers and has been PI or Co-I on 13+ extramurally funded projects since arriving at UH in 2009.
